Chip is really Light Gaia and lost his memories due to being awaken prematurely. He helps Sonic out and ultimately sacrifices himself in the end in order to save/help Sonic.

Chip loved chocolate and is known to offer chocolate randomly to characters. He is a very playful and cheery character.
